About

Dr. Fulco graduated from Boston University with a B.A. in Psychology.  He pursued his graduate studies at the New School for Social Research in New York City, earning a Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology in 1981.  Predoctoral training included extensive experience in psychological testing and long-term psychodynamically oriented psychotherapy with children, adolescents, and adults.  Prior to postdoctoral training in neuropsychology, Dr. Fulco trained interns while treating children and adolescents at Mount Sinai Hospital in Hartford.  He has consulted to area hospitals including the Institute of Living, Hospital for Special Care, Saint Francis/Mount Sinai, and New Britain General.

As an independent practitioner, he has conducted evaluations for many public schools in the state, and has provided services to students attending a number of the major independent schools in Connecticut.  Having an extensive background in long-term outpatient treatment, along with ten years of clinical experience working in inpatient and partial hospital treatment programs, Dr. Fulco’s experience has spanned the gamut of treatments, including cognitive, behavioral, interpersonal, dynamic, expressive, and family systems approaches and also includes application of this background to play therapy.

While he has chosen since 1994 to devote his practice exclusively to consultation, diagnosis, and evaluation, this background has shaped his philosophy and informed his thinking, resulting in a conviction that assessment should be an individualized experience.  As such, the emphasis is placed on knowing you or your child, and to keying the extensive findings of evaluation to the particular person's unique personality style and needs, regardless of age.  For this reason, preference is given to a comprehensive approach to testing and assessment.  In addition, every effort is made to assure you understand the findings thoroughly.

You can expect, therefore, a high degree of personal contact from the time of your initial call, including:

  • No secretaries or third party intermediaries.  Dr. Fulco books his own appointments and will talk with you personally in some detail on the telephone before an appointment is set up.  Initial appointments are therefore not booked online.
  • No assistants, technicians, students, or support staff will participate in the evaluation.
  •  A separately scheduled feedback consultation appointment where you will have ample time to ask questions and have the evaluation results explained thoroughly, unless you and your referring health provider or physician have made other arrangements.
A detailed report with concrete, easy to understand recommendations spelled out. Reports are written in a narrative style intended to give a portrait of the client's functioning. History and interview findings are carefully documented. Implications of test results are thoroughly explained, so the report can be used by you or professionals to help you or your child.
